In September of 2010, Cecil College opened its newly renovated Physical Education Complex on the North East campus. The project, completed in two phases, included the renovation of the existing Physical Education and Activities Building and the addition of a 20,870 square foot structure that houses state-of-the-art classrooms and a weight training and fitness center.
The objectives for this project were to promote long-term health and wellness programs and activities; expand the building use from athletics to academic programs; construct a handicapped accessible facility; create a positive physical environment; reuse the existing gym and footprint of the building; celebrate accomplishments of student-athletes; and encourage students to stay on campus and participate in activities.
The Physical Education Complex is a multi-use facility, which is used for classes, athletic and student events, commencement, student collaborative learning, informal get-togethers, student clubs, receptions, luncheons, and fundraising events.
New features of the building include:
- Wood flooring in the gymnasium
- Chair back and bench seating in the gymnasium
- Upgraded security and alarm systems
- Visiting team locker room
- Team meeting rooms
- Athletic training
- Ticket and concessions area
- Relocated soccer field and 6 tennis courts
- Walking track
