Though Speech is not offered as a degree program, most programs require Public Speaking. Though this is a dreaded and feared course by many, the skills needed to accomplish public address are taught in a supportive and encouraging atmosphere. The students will have several opportunities to try out their newly acquired skills in the classroom "lab" and learn from their presentations and the presentations of their peers. Presentations with the effective use of PowerPoint is addressed.
Interpersonal Communication, a General Education elective, is the study of the process of communication focuses on the development of communication skills. Understand of how misunderstandings occur in our daily communication is addressed along with the development of verbal and listening skills. Recognizing non-verbal cues, communicating emotions, communicating in conflict and computer mediated communication are also addressed to help the student be most effective in daily communication, whether in personal relationships, school or business.
