Position: Professional Truck Driver Training Field Instructor - PT
Department: Transportation & Logistics
Hours: PT, Tuesdays & Thursdays 8am-5pm
Salary Grade: N/A
Pay Rate: $16.00/hour
General Duties: Planning of student “Road & Range” field activities. Effectively teach skills related to courses in program module. Monitor student attendance in assigned courses; maintain daily student attendance records. Monitor daily work performance (progress) of students, conduct evaluations & progress reports as assigned. Report needed repairs to Coordinator. Report any program or student problems to the Coordinator. Prepare & submit daily post trip reports. Other duties as assigned by the Coordinator.
Requirements: Requires a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License. Minimum of three (3) years recent experience as a driver of a vehicle requiring a Class A license or equivalent in the trucking industry. High School diploma or equivalent. No more than 3 current points on the driving record. No record of serious violations. No DUI or DWI or alcohol restriction. Must pass Cecil College skills & road test. Pass DOT Physical, drug & alcohol screen. Willing to wear program uniforms & conform to program dress & appearance codes. Willing to conform to teaching methods & standards set by the program. Must be willing to abide by all program rules & regulations set for staff & students. Meet all FMCSR requirements for a commercial driver. Willing to work weekends & evenings as assigned. In addition to the DOT physical requirements, Field Instructors must be able to meet the following physical requirements: Climbing into & out of COE & conventional tractor cabs & trailers. Pulling full strength vertically and horizontally to lift tractor hood, and hook and unhook a trailer. Standing up to 9 hours per day outside on black top in all types of weather conditions. Sitting up to 9 hours per day riding in a tractor trailer. Ability to quickly turn head and/or body to observe student driving situation. Ability to grab wheel and/or gear shift from the tractor passenger seat in an emergency situation. Ability to record & accurately calculate mileage & student driving time. Ability to read & write English. Ability to speak English understandably so that persons can clearly & easily understand directions. Ability to speak distinctly & at sufficient volume to be heard by the student driver over the noise of a running engine.
