Testing Center

Testing Center

The Testing Center administers Cecil College skills assessments and certifications through Pearson VUE. Skills assessments and Pearson tests are taken in the Testing Center, North East Campus, Engineering and Math Building, Room 310. Walk-ins are welcome; no appointment is necessary. You must present a valid I.D. and know your social security number. The testing center provides supplies (calculator, pencil, scratch paper) as needed. The hours for the testing center are listed below.

All students entering Cecil College are evaluated for placement purposes. Skills assessments are used to determine at what level a student begins his/her academic coursework. Mathematics, reading, and writing are assessed. A student may need to take 1, 2, or 3 of the assessments. Each assessment (mathematics, reading, writing) usually takes less than one hour. We encourage students to study prior to testing and complete sample Accuplacer questions prior to testing.

Skills Assessment Waivers

Students may qualify for a skills assessment exemption. Exemptions may be granted when:

  • a student has earned an associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree from an accredited institution;
  • a student has a qualifying score of 500 on the SAT or 21 on the ACT in the academic discipline; or
  • a student has successfully completed parallel coursework at another accredited institution of higher education.

Starting your coursework at college level advances your pathway through Cecil College. Focus on the importance of the skills assessments and prepare to do your best!
