NORTH EAST, Md.: The Cecil College Foundation is proud to announce the creation of the Caring Hearts Scholarship that will support students enrolled at Cecil College. This scholarship honors Edith T. “Sandy” McDonald and her son Paul Robert ‘Rob’ McDonald, who passed away within a six-month period earlier this year.

The Caring Hearts Scholarship supports students enrolled in the Nursing Assistant (NA) program.  Nursing Assistants work in a variety of health care settings and are the foundation of patient care. They work on the front lines, caring for patient’s daily needs. Upon successful completion of this program, students will be eligible to request certification (CNA) through the Maryland Board of Nursing and will sit for the Geriatric Nursing Assistant certification exam.

The Caring Hearts Scholarship was established by family members Patrick McDonald, Patricia Zeigler, Paula Kestler, Pam Carcirieri, and Kandi McDonald to help Cecil College students realize success through academic achievements.

“We lost both our mom, Sandy, and our brother, Rob, within a six-month period, and both needed hospice care before their passing. The Nursing Assistants were integral in helping us manage their end-of-life care. This scholarship is being offered to show our appreciation for this critical career field and foster the need for passionate and caring individuals to help family members and our loved ones,” said Pam Carcirieri.
