Cecil basketball players make all-conference teams

The Cecil College Seahawks are flying high as the Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (Maryland JUCO) post-season basketball awards were announced this week with several players making the lists.

The women’s basketball team was honored with four positions on the all-conference team lists. Leading the Seahawks was sophomore guard Alexis Stubblefield with a first-team selection. At 5-foot-4, this Woodbridge, Va., native averaged 14 points per game over the 26-game schedule. From the guard’s position, she hit 41 percent (134-327) of her field goals that included shooting 34.7 percent (25-72) from beyond the arc. With her speed and agility, Stubblefield also averaged 4.3 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game.

Taking second team honors for the Seahawks is sophomore guard Nyjayha Lockwood, who averaged 14.2 points per game by shooting 49.3 percent (147-298) from the floor. Her tenacious enabled her to average 7.1 rebounds.

Grabbing honorable mentions were sophomore forward Briana McAllister and sophomore guard Chyna Steele. McAllister averaged 10.8 points and 9.6 rebounds under the boards. She shot 48.1 percent (114-237) from the floor. Steele averaged 11.9 points and 10.3 rebounds per game.

Taking in the honors for the men’s basketball team was freshman guard Cornell Corbin. He received an honorable mention in the voting. This Lincoln, Del., native hit 43.2 percent (134-310) from the field to average 12.8 points per game. He also grabbed eight rebounds per game.
