Cecil College launches new Data Science Certificate

NORTH EAST, Md: In its continuing commitment to providing educational pathways for in-demand careers, Cecil College has created a new certificate program focused on entry-level positions in data science, including the processing, manipulation, analysis, interpretation, and ethical use of data. Specifically, the Data Science Certificate program focuses on the field’s mathematical and computer science-related aspects.

The Data Science Certificate program can be completed in just two semesters.

This program features introductory programming, statistics, data science, and geographic information systems courses. Students will also learn to apply basic mathematical analysis techniques, and use their computer skills for Python and ethics in information technology.

Upon completing this program, students can apply mathematical and statistical principles to analyze data, utilize relevant software to manipulate and analyze data and interpret and communicate results obtained from data analysis. They will also be knowledgeable in the ethical collection and use of data.

This Certificate is an eight-course, 27-credit certificate where students will take Data Science I (DSC 201), Geographic Information Systems I (CSC 105), Introduction to Programming (CSC 109), Ethics in Information Technology (CSC 110), Advanced Programming in Python (CSC 230), Introduction to Statistics I (MAT 127), Introduction to Statistics II (MAT 128), and either Applied Calculus (MAT 125) or Calculus I with Analytic Geometry (MAT 201). Upon completing the program, this certificate can then articulate to an Associate of Science Degree in Data Science.
