Cecil College offers new Hospitality Management Certificate

NORTH EAST, Md.: Cecil College continues to meet the workforce needs of local businesses by launching a new certificate program in hospitality management that prepares Cecil County residents for a career in the tourism industry.

Developed in consultation with hospitality partners, this Certificate provides a defined course of study for those working in the field who need to have the necessary college-level coursework for their positions. Upon successful completion of this program, students working in the hospitality industry will be able to formulate strategies to lead and manage organizations, explain the economic, technical, legal, and sociocultural environments of a specific company, and explain the essential functions, roles, and responsibilities of management in the different areas of the industry.

“The hospitality industry is fast-paced and offers numerous opportunities in settings ranging from restaurants and hotels to cruises and amusement parks, and our new certificate is designed to help students enter this career path,” said Associate Professor of Business and Department Chair Candace Vogelsong.

Along with a vacation resort, international equestrian competition, and vacation destinations located within Cecil County, there are more than 200 miles of shoreline for nautical activities.

This Certificate is a four-course, 12-credit certificate where students will take Principles of Management (BUS 131), Introduction to Hospitality Management (BUS 193), Organizational Leadership (BUS 216), and Management of Human Resources (BUS 231). Upon completing the program, students can earn their Hospitality Management Certificate. This certificate can then articulate to an Associate Degree in Business Administration or Management.
