ELKTON, Md: The Cecil County Democrat Club proudly announced an expansion of its annual scholarship, increasing this year’s award to $1,500, which will now support two Cecil County Public High School seniors attending Cecil College. Each recipient will receive a $750 scholarship to help cover tuition as the Club continues its commitment to foster educational opportunity in the community.

The Cecil County Democrat Club Scholarship, established in 2014, has now provided more than $10,000 in financial assistance to local students. Administered through the Cecil College Foundation, the scholarship supports CCPS graduates who demonstrate good citizenship and civic responsibility. Applicants submit essays on how they aim to make a difference in their community.

This year’s recipients embody the scholarship’s mission in powerful ways. Ava Cichosz, who is enrolled in the Music program at Cecil College and a graduate of North East High School, serves as the Chair of the Scholarship Committee and is dedicated not only to academics but also to giving back through leadership.

Braeden Means, a Bohemia Manor High School graduate, is deeply engaged in community service. He actively raises funds for the Bobby Jones CSF Foundation through organizing charity walks, runs annual toy drives for the Ronald McDonald House, and leads a children’s support group for youth in need. “I want to help our future generations live better lives than I did when I was younger,” said Means, whose compassion and leadership exemplify the values this scholarship seeks to honor.

Jamie Marshall, President of the Cecil County Democrat Club, expressed an appreciation for everyone who make the scholarship possible. “It is a significant thing we do for the community and to help our young people achieve and realize their dreams.”

According to the Community College Research Center, nearly two-thirds of community college students experience financial insecurity that threatens their ability to complete their degrees. Scholarships not only ease the financial burden but also empower students to focus on their academic and career goals.

The Cecil County Democrat Club remains committed to awarding this scholarship annually to two deserving CCPS graduates. Students must be in good academic standing with a GPA of 2.5 or higher, and plan to attend Cecil College either full-time or part-time.

The Cecil College Foundation Board of Directors, comprising 25 community leaders, is dedicated to developing financial resources to support Cecil College students. The scholarship application for the next academic year opens on October 1 at www.cecil.edu/scholarships.
