NORTH EAST, Md. – The Cecil College Board of Trustees bestowed the highest honor to a former member of the institution’s faculty by naming Nancy Vinton, MD., Professor Emerita. Dr. Vinton retired from Cecil College in June 2020 after a distinguished 17-year career of preparing students for a lifetime of success.

Dr. Vinton began her Cecil College career in 2003 as an adjunct faculty member and started full-time employment in 2007. She played an integral role in the science department and created projects to improve the quality of Anatomy and Physiology education at the college. She redesigned the lab manuals for Anatomy and Physiology I and II to include labeled images of the anatomy models used in lab courses. In addition, she created online histology atlases for both lab courses that included labeled images from the tissue slides used in both courses. She facilitated having the atlases published on the Maryland Open-Source Textbook.

She worked very closely with the Physical Therapist Assistant program by serving on their advisory board. Dr. Vinton held her students to very high standards, which they came to appreciate as they continued their education in either nursing or Physical Therapy Assistant.

As new faculty were hired, she shared her resources with them to ensure continuity across the courses. She served as Senate president and on numerous committees, including Senate, Faculty Affairs Committee, Cecil County Public Schools mentor, Strategic Planning Committee, and Assessment committee.

In 2019, Dr. Vinton was the recipient of the Inaugural Faculty Recognition Award as her work addressed the college’s strategic priorities of Driving Academic Achievement and Fostering a Dynamic Learning Environment. Illustrations, photos, and digital histology atlases are just a few of the innovations created and implemented by Dr. Vinton, supporting students and their diverse learning styles.

Dr. Vinton earned a bachelor of science degree from Goucher College before attending the Yale School of Medicine. She retired from Cecil College with the title Professor I in Biology. Professor Emerita rank will be bestowed on Dr. Vinton at the Cecil College graduation ceremony on May 16, 2021.
