A student wearing protective earmuffs, gloves, and a light-colored work jacket operates a piece of industrial manufacturing equipment inside a training lab. The student is positioned at a metal lathe or similar machining tool, with hands on the controls and attention directed toward the machine. The workspace includes organized tools, metal components, and bottles of machine oil on shelves in the background. Warm overhead lighting highlights the machinery and emphasizes the hands-on, skills-based environment typical of a manufacturing training lab. New Certified Manufacturing Associate program

Published on March 24, 2026

ELKTON, Md: Cecil College has launched a new Certified Manufacturing Associate program, beginning in June 2026, designed for individuals who are new to the manufacturing industry. This innovative program equips students with the foundational knowledge and hands-on skills needed to step confidently into high-demand, entry-level roles.

Whether starting a new career or transitioning into a growing field, the Certified Manufacturing Associate program bridges the gap between no experience and a professional future. The hybrid format combines flexible online coursework with in-person, hands-on training to ensure students develop real-world skills that today’s employers demand.

The program consists of two courses. In Certified Manufacturing Associate I, students will learn about shop safety, manufacturing processes, technical math, measurement, blueprint reading, and modern production technologies. In Certified Manufacturing Associate II, students will explore automation, assembly operations, quality systems, and lean manufacturing principles.

Participants will gain practical knowledge in key areas, including shop math, machining, assembly, inspection, and more. Upon completing the program, students will sit for the nationally recognized CMfgA certification exam. Passing this exam earns them an industry-driven credential and a digital badge, demonstrating workforce readiness and providing enhanced opportunities to share their qualifications with potential employers.
