NORTH EAST, Md: Cecil College is pleased to announce the launch of its new Intelligent Learning Design (ILD) Certificate Program. This fully online program equips students with the skills and knowledge necessary to create engaging, inclusive, and compelling learning experiences across a wide range of professional settings, including secondary education and higher education, corporate training environments, and nonprofit or government sectors.

With a growing demand for instructional designers and learning professionals who can effectively integrate technology, artificial intelligence, and universal design principles, this certificate provides a timely and relevant pathway for those seeking to advance or transition their careers in education and training.

The ILD Certificate Program consists of five carefully sequenced courses that guide students through every stage of the learning design process. Students begin with a foundational understanding of instructional design models and learning theories in the Introduction to Learning Design Theory course, then move into more applied work in Online and Adaptive Course Design, which emphasizes creating responsive and flexible learning environments.

The Introduction to Learning Design Practice course enables students to apply these concepts in real-world scenarios, preparing them for the more advanced integration of artificial intelligence and emerging educational technologies in AI Solutions for Learning Design. The program culminates in the Intelligent Learning Design Capstone, where students synthesize their learning by designing a fully developed, inclusive, and accessible online learning module tailored to a specific audience or training need.

Each course builds upon the last, allowing for a progressive and in-depth learning experience that totals 15 academic credits upon completion.

A unique feature of the ILD Certificate Program is its strong emphasis on accessibility, inclusion, and ethical AI decision-making in the design process. These skills are increasingly essential in both academic and corporate training settings. Students will not only learn how to use AI and instructional technologies, but also how to do so responsibly, with a focus on learner equity and engagement.

The program also emphasizes collaboration and practical application, with each course incorporating hands-on projects and opportunities for peer feedback. The capstone course, in particular, is designed to produce a portfolio-ready project that can demonstrate students’ abilities to potential employers or stakeholders.

The ILD program is delivered entirely online using Cecil College’s recently adopted Canvas learning management system, which provides a streamlined, user-friendly experience with tools that support multimedia integration, adaptive learning, and mobile access. Courses are offered in accelerated seven-week sessions, allowing motivated students to complete the program within one academic year.

This format is designed to be flexible for all learners, whether you are a working professional, a career changer, or a student seeking to build new skills in a short time frame. As part of Cecil College’s broader commitment to accessible and high-quality learning opportunities, the ILD certificate supports career development in a rapidly growing field shaped by digital transformation across industries.
