UMGC partners with Cecil College in the Dual Admission Program
Published on May 16, 2025

ADELPHI, MD: University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) and Cecil College (Md.), a two-year institution serving Cecil County and the surrounding area, have partnered on a dual admission program that will allow a student to be simultaneously admitted to both UMGC and Cecil College. Under the new program, those students who complete an associate degree at Cecil College transfer credit seamlessly toward a bachelor’s degree at UMGC.
“We are proud to partner with Cecil College to provide a proven pathway that can provide cost savings and reduce the administrative burden for students to progress toward a bachelor’s degree,” said Chris Motz, chief partnerships officer at UMGC. “Students can boost their momentum toward completion knowing they have already been accepted to UMGC and have a scholarship that will reduce the cost of their education.”
Benefits of dual admission include acceptance of all Cecil College transfer credits; co-advising with UMGC advisors to ensure Cecil College courses align with the chosen UMGC program; and access to UMGC’s lifetime career services and library resources, including research help, guides, and writing and citation tutorials. UMGC also waives the $50 application fee for undergraduate transfer students enrolled at Cecil College.
Cecil College President Dr. Mary Way Bolt commented on the dual admission program with UMGC, emphasizing its benefits for students. She stated, “This partnership aligns with our mission to provide accessible, affordable, and high-quality education to our community. By enabling students to seamlessly transfer credits and reduce the overall cost of a bachelor’s degree, we support their educational and career aspirations.”
The dual admission program complements UMGC’s existing Maryland Completion Scholarship, which allows Maryland community college graduates to transfer to UMGC and earn a bachelor’s degree for $12,000 or less.
UMGC also uses no-cost digital learning resources instead of publisher textbooks in most classes, making affordable content a click away and mobile-ready for its students.
UMGC is one of the country’s most transfer-friendly universities, welcoming 12,025 transfers in fall 2024.
